exploring the inner sanctum....

The adventures take a short rest after barely managing to move through the powerful sand-hurricane-like storm. We come upon the ‘face in the stone’. Once we are within the caves, a group of strange burrowing monsters ambush us. We quickly dispatched them using the magic wielder to wreck havoc on them as they grouped together to attack us, however, during the fight, two obelisks disguised as the front two massive teeth of the face begin to spot electrical energy and attacking us until we are able to turn off the device. With our rapidly depleting resources of both items and rest, we attempt to do an extended rest in one of the tunnels of the cavern inside. We setup a trap to warn us of upcoming “visitors”, however, before any of us have a chance to get any shuteye the trap springs. We reluctantly decide to permanently remove our guests before trying again. Going down a narrow cavern, we spot a large stream of water, however, we spot two odd looking and misplaced reeds in the water. Further inspection reveals them to be antenna of a small Thule fledgling. A few good hits and a critical finish off the Thule, however, it leaves a rather disgusting filament on-top of the water. Crossing the water, we stumble onto a small liar of seasoned bandits. A large fight ensues with us on the losing end for some time. We managed to finally dispatch all of the bandits except the leader. He tells us several things about the cavern and mentions that he must protect what is behind the door with his life and attempts once more to attack before we finally kill him.

Into the Eye of the Storm
Nothing left, but everything to gain.

The party picks up where it left off; stumbling across an area of spider’s home. Several unusual and blue cacti also grow nearby. A brief investigation and the ambush starts with a large spider and two smaller counterparts crawling over the rocks. Several hard hits were both given and had; Gauthak and Thatari were both dropped, however, the rogue Quinn steps in, abusing the effect the monk left on the last two remaining spiders, drops the large spider with a solid hit and with the effect triggering to finish off the last spider.

The party takes a full rest to regain health, powers and points.

This day starts Day 6 of our journey. A reminder that we only have 10 days left on our promise to the merchant.

A few hours journey and we make a way through a pass that is held in a chaotic, yet controlled sand storm that swirls powerfully and loudly. Descending from a hill, we are spotted by a band of raiders. A quick try at diplomacy, by mimicking the Templar, to settle the bout without conflict only ends in disaster. Gauthak swings hard and heavy against the first enemy nearly dropping him with his war-hammer. Zala (Vern) heads towards some of the captives that the band is using to test the abilities of the storm. She slams a good hit into the biggest foe she first encounters. Alaer hits with a solid spell, however, is stunned by a critical from an opponent. Quinn darts off and throws several throwing stars dispatching the smaller, yet more annoying folks. She then moves in for the kill against the much more powerful foes. Thatari weaves in and out, landing a few good punches and withdrawing to help heal and stabilize fellow party members. A few solid rounds pass, with several near death experiences, but bouncing back we successfully finish off every member of the raiding band. Thatari presses the last remaining foe’s mind for any information. She comes back with images of a leader character that runs the raiding band and several images of powerful conquest.

The party questions the remaining 6 captives about both the raiding band and any information about where they came from, heading, etc. They inform the party that they were traveling towards a small dwarven settlement, looking to trade obsidian. However, they were ambushed by the raiding band and taken captive. They don’t know where exactly the raiding band was headed. The caravan is gracious for their freedom, leaving us to collect the gold they had planned to use for a reward and the leader of the caravan giving us a potion of what he claims has healing properties, however, he has never checked nor had to use it.

After a successful streetwise check, we are able to identify the raiding party by the tattoos on their inner arm of a snake skull. The leader is named Yarnath, the Skull. Yarnath operates several raiding parties via his mysterious citadel coined ‘Slither’. Which is rumored to be perverse and seeping with dark arcane magic.

Though many of the party’s resources have been expended; we press on into the storm. We fail horribly each time. However, each time we are able to press further through the storm. We finally make it through, with Quinn being the last and nearly failing on the last push through. Now, the party stands in awe of the ‘face in the stone’ which is centered in the eye of the storm.

A short rest, and we delve ever deeper…

Starting the Adventure with a bang!
...and not ending in a whimper.

So we start our journey in the City of Tyr, Benn Nal having given us the location of a well-known tavern that would offer us a few jobs for our line of work. A half-giant named Karlen approached us and offered us a treasure hunt for a place coined ‘the Face in the Stone’. He stated that a few well trusted caravan masters had mentioned the place from their passing by. They said that it appeared that a good treasure awaited those that would remove those in possession of the treasure. He gave us the best directions he could give us with what he knew or so it at least appeared. The party promised a return in 16 days otherwise, he should assume that we had be killed or captured.

We talked to the barkeep, Vocefus, he knows well of Karlen or at least believes him as a good patron in his bar. We were told by Karlen to talk to him once we return and he will put out word that we are both back and ready to meet with Karlen again.

As we were leaving, several remarks are made against ‘the Face in the Stone’ about how only a foolish tale would mind the feet of adventurers. As our half-giant, Gauthak, was exiting the door a dwarf messenger passed off a wax sealed letter that he quickly pocketed without yet reading.

Once we had completely exited the tavern several ruffians appeared commanded by a Templar of Hamanu, the Sorcerer-King of Urik. He yelled off that we were being added to the fold by painful initiation and we should be pleased to join him. A few punches, bashes and slashes, by our rogue Quinn, the ruffians had been killed, or they had run off. The Templar was given a quick chance to surrender, however, he feinted, failed and was fatally cut by the monk, Zala. As the party knew the Tyrian guard would soon be upon them, the monk cut the robes off of the Templar, while the Villichi, Thatari intruded on his mind to find any sort of details as to why the Templar attacked us. Thatari came away with a image of the Templar’s family being held hostage. Zala beheaded the Templar and removed his right hand, as they were making their escape Zala tossed the head into a fire pit and gave the chef 5gp for ruining the spit. The Templar’s identity has been removed and his name, Sarhan, was found in the seam of the cloak.

The party quickly leaves from Tyr and begins to head towards the location of ‘the Face in the Stone’. Now that we finally have the time to rummage through the remains of the Templar, we find 550 gp, a pot of ink, three needles, and several insignias of Urik.

We manage to have a streak of good luck and cover a good distance towards ‘the Face’ in a total of 4 days. The party is very confident that we are going in the direction that is correct.

The session ends with the party facing large crystalline webs jotting from around the rocks that we have to pass through on our way to ‘the Face in the Stone’
